Ian Millhiser, Center for American Progress joins Thom Hartmann. Is the Supreme Court about to give corporations the right to commit genocide? Believe it or not - that may happen. The High Court has agreed to hear the case of Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum which could give corporations immunity from any lawsuits for their employees murdering, raping, or torturing people in the areas where they're drilling for oil or fielding mercenary armies - just as long as they're carrying out the atrocities under the heading of corporate business.

  • What the fuck.

  • @PrObamaAntiTeaParty YEEEEEEEEEY!!

  • I'm not even kidding but I smell the end of capitalism. This shit is no longer sustainable.

  • @PrObamaAntiTeaParty Too many people are convinced it's too much work to get off their sofa and change a damned thing. They'll just sign petitions and hope for the best. I have a march to get to now..

  • They should cut the bell curve in half.

  • @sklanger no i want war! warrr warrrr!

  • @thedenimeffect That's a relief. Now uncock your rifle and unclench your sphincter, no war for you.

  • @sklanger nah im pretty chill bro :3

  • @thedenimeffect Do you feel stupid threatening to wage a worthless ass war based on a misunderstanding and ignorance of the law in question? Because of your ignorance, you're easily misled and provoked by youtube demagogues like Hartmann. That's why you can't have nice things. That's why the Framers disliked mobocracy. They knew that the fired-up masses -- people like you -- would rage and do stupid things based on ignorance and transient passion stoked by charismatic demagogues.

  • @thedenimeffect Why? The case is about immunity from civil lawsuits for actions that took place overseas. What makes you think that the Alien Tort Statute, which authorizes these suits for actions in the U.S. or on the high seas, has additional extraterritorial reach? The laws of one country don't usually apply in another. And people will still be criminally liable, because this case is only about civil liability. Nobody actually "gets the right to commit genocide" whatever the outcome.
