On September 9, 2008, Frank Turek debated atheist Christopher Hitchens, author of God is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, at Virginia Commonwealth University. The topic was, "Does God Exist?"

Hitchens was his usual charming and witty self (I , Frank, really like him and said as much), but he did not answer any of the eight arguments that were presented for the existence of God. Many in the audience acknowledged that he dodged nearly all of the questions. Watch the video and decide for yourself which arguments were strongest. Then read comments in the CrossExamined blog (http://www.crossexamined.org/blog/?p=84) from a variety of viewers who wanted to weigh in with their opinions and arguments.

  • big bang ka booom

  • I don't understand Franks idea that to go from a state of nonbeing to a state of being requres a choice. That just beggs the question "why did God choose to make it"? He got lonely? then how, and why did he get lonely? What caused God to get lonely? Where did the thing that caused God to get lonely come from? It just seems that to say God just randomly decides (for no reason) to create something, that you might as well just say the universe popped into existence out of nothing.

  • Tureks 'arguments' (I am being very genrous by calling them thus) are childish. He cannot answer Hitchens logical and reasoning skills and you can see it in his inpatience/

  • The Pope shold be in the dock for criminal conspiracy to assist felons escape from law enforcement agencies jurisdiction (at the very least). If Pope Benedict were not a religious leader he would be behind bars - rape and sodomy of children is inexcusable, how does the Pope sleep at night?.

  • I always enjoy seeing Hitchens debate but why on earth do so many of his opponents shout?. It is so unnecssary to shriek = do they think it makes their evidence (or more accurately lack of evidence) somehow better. How Hitchens puts up with it I don't know.

  • These debates aren't long enough...

  • Wow what an ending! Do watch the last 10 minutes.

  • sadly . . . hitchens is only pulling punches. I really feel that he lost the debate. I don't like how he handled this. Love the guy but hes bein an ass and not really trying to answer any questions.

  • I thought that morality did come from the benzene molecule.....
