The origins of the Damara tribe of Namibia remain a mystery to anthropologists even today. In 2008 I captured these video images illustrating the dancing of the traditional Springbok Dance of the Damara in Sesfontein, Kaokoland, Namibia. The age of the members of the group, led by Jakob Hoib, range from 65 to 83 years - R Heunis www.imageafrica.net
Not so. The group shown is the only remaining group of Damara that I could find in the entire Namibia, after a 3 year search, who still perform their traditional dance as a group. The oldest member of the group is 89, with the remainder not much younger! The "lyrics" of 3 of the songs that they performed, were transcribed for me and the content corresponds closely with those derived from historical records recorded in 1922, near Uis
