Acceptance speech...Dan Caro receives the United States Junior Chamber Ten Outstanding Young Americans award in New Orleans at the 72nd annual TOYA awards ceremony.
....it just amazed me how much inner strength and determination he had and here I am trying to skip school and crying all the time because I was skinny and people made fun of me. I am sure students made fun of him sometimes but he never showed any signs of it bothering him. I was jealous of the confidence he had and strived to match it. We only met briefly during talent shows we did but again talk about one cool guy with determination that nothing could take away.
I remember Dan from when I was in the talented music program at Mandeville High Shool. He went to another high school close by but every once in a while he would show up at my school. I was the skinniest kid in school and got laughed at every day. I cried before I would go each morning. Then I met Dan and oh my God his confidence and happiness just moved me so much he truly was a hero to me. I knew he would eventually succeed in whatever he put his mind to.
Mr. Dan-- What an inspiration and what a sense of timing, and humor. I had the honor of being the U.S. Jaycee host to Mr. Caro's table at this event. I found his family so very friendly and warm and meeting Dan and them was the higlight to my New Orleans visit. These people are what is RIGHT about humanity.
