One month after the Deepwater Horizon explosion, race car driver, environmental activist and National Wildlife Federation Ambassador Leilani Munter talks about her experience visiting the Gulf of Mexico, her thoughts on BP CEO Tony Hayward (who famously said the oil spill was "relatively tiny" in "the very big coean" and said the environmental effects will be "very, very modest") and what we need to do moving forward. PS. Yes, I realize I that it is the one month anniversary of the explosion, not the sinking - but by the time I caught it, it was too late.

  • why doesent obama stop bashing the british and get his hands out of his pockets, its quite amusing how the us goverment is trying to destroy bp yet with full knowledge that ALOT of people has investments ans pensions within the organization. If BP fail then alot of pensions will fail and that means alot of inocent people that had no hand in this disaster will ultimately pay the price whilst the fat cats can go to their 5star homes. peace!

  • @jester18uk Ha! It's the other way around, BP has already destroyed us! They have single handedly wiped out the entire seafood & tourism economy in our Gulf. Half our seafood comes from there. What about all our people whose livelihoods are gone? What about them?! It's not our fault BP has the worst safety record of all the oil companies. In last 3 yrs BP received 760 safety citations across 6 refineries. The other 145 refineries COMBINED in the US received only 1! FACTS are a wonderful thing.

  • @leilanimunter dont get me wrong my thoughts go out to everyone effected by this and it is a disaster you are quite right in saying that bp have failed however the rig was american owned, had americans operating it, but then obama seems to think this revolve around a british company that america now has the vat majority of shares!. you are right facts are a wonderful thing!

  • @jester18uk actually, you are wrong again. The rig was owned and operated by Transocean, a Swiss company that pays Swiss taxes. The rig was built in Korea and was registered in the Marshall Islands. And the orders to keep drilling going against the warnings by others on the day of the fateful explosion were given by BP executives. This is directly from survivors that were on the Deepwater Horizon that day. 60 Minutes did the story, you can watch it online. Facts ARE a wonderful thing, indeed.

  • @leilanimunter oh wow, it seems like you have it all sussed out, well im a gentleman willing to except im worng if im wrong then its due to the in acuracies of the media in my country, i shall do some more homework on this and try to counter you in the near future! lol just kidding peace! ... but still obama needs to back off with the anti brit mentality and refering to it as british pertololium.

  • @jester18uk cool. please try to correct the media in the uk if they are reporting it wrong! they must not be fact checking very closely, it happens. peace!

  • @05swanbe I think that's why she said "American history" not "history" so Hiroshima and Nagasaki would not be included since they are in Japan.

  • nicely done.

if we all switched to quantum energy we would liberate the world from oil.

  • more people should care about the environment. They live in this world too!!

  • @leilanimunter...please don't take this as a criticism, its curiousity...Isn't your integrity as an environmentalist, compromised by your continuing career as a race car driver? How much fuel do you burn per month, per week, per day, on the track? If you were to give up your need for speed at the Earth's expense, then I could recognise sincerity, but it seem hypocritical and ironic. Responsibility starts with our own actions before criticising others...Whats your carbon footprint?

  • BP GO TO HELL!

  • Hemp will replace every petroleum product, so why is Hemp not legal? Money.

  • 1 second ago Some babies crap in side the womb- we call it mechonium-, Then there are babies who bite the niples of the mother causing mothers to get mastitis.

Most human babies do none of the above.

Piglets almost always bite the nipples of the mother.

Mr.Haywood is a useless , worthess mass of protoplasm , that may have done both .

Then he is talking about a life.

He is an evil thing. Not even a low life , innanimate - lifeless , thing without feelings.

  • That would be our federal government, and in this case the Minerals Management Service. They Looked the Other Way for a Long Long Time. Sorry, but the reason we don't have more independent experts working for the public good is due to a failure at the highest level -- essentially corruption at the federal government level. The lobbyists get what they pay for.

  • Now what to do about the problem. As somebody else said, Americans and Europeans generally don't notice (or more specifically, don't care) about environmental disasters until they happen in their own back yards. And who is responsible for keeping an eye on these vicious, snaring beasts known as multinationals?

  • Whether we like it or not, we depend on hydrocarbons for our survival, not merely for wealth. How do you think it has been possible to expand the human population from 2 billion to over 6 billion in the past century or so?

  • Obama sent "Joe The Plumber" and he fixed the leak!

Wil you marry me now or do some pole dancing for us?

    Pretty please????
