If you think airlines have exhausted the list of things they can charge for...think again. American Airlines will now charge between $19 and $39 for ""Express Seats"" — those first few rows of coach including bulkhead seats.
The price of the seats includes getting on the plane in the first ""general boarding"" group of passengers. These seats can only be purchased at airport kiosks between 24 hours to 50 minutes prior to domestic U.S. flights.
Travelers will still have the option to reserve other seats in the coach cabin at no charge.
Several other major airlines, such as United Airlines and Continental Airlines, also charge for the best seats in coach.
If the airlines want to get petty and charge you extra for certain seats in economy, they better be prepared to give me a discount for crappy seats in economy. You can't have it both ways
