Brideshead Revisited - Sunbathing

If you've ever been ushered into a higher strata of society, having not grown up in it, you can in some way identify with Charles. Of course, the story is about so much more just that, but it does capture the emotions of that sort of experience. My only fault with the novel is that it went beyond just conveying "the sense of" to standing "in defense of" the elitism into which Charles was being baptized. The novel lacks a certain Flaubertian objectivity that could have made it perfect.
