IBOGA RECORDS co-founder DJ EMOK opens 2011 with a new collaboration with Japanese DJ KOUTAROU A., while one of Spain's biggest house producers over the years, D-FORMATION, is on remix-duty.
DJ Emok is well known as both a terrific DJ as well as from producing under names like Phony Orphants and Maelstrom, which has brought him on several tours across the globe during the last 10 years. The track "Tokyo Slickers" started on one of DJ Emok's many tours in Japan where the collaboration with the local DJ Koutarou.A took form. The result is a deep and hypnotic track that fuses progressive house with darker, pulsating elements from techno.
Behind the remix is one of Spain's biggest names on the house scene, D-Formation. The Madrid-based DJ and producer have been around for many years, and his tribal-inspired house sound has appeared on a long string of top labels -- from Toolroom, Yoshitoshi and Baroque to of course BeatFreak Recordings.
His interpretation of "Tokyo Slickers" is more on the brighter side than the original -- more emphasis is put on the melodic elements, and the groove is bouncy, catchy and very dance friendly. A great optimistic tune for clubbier sets.
