@petion2010 the ionians did some "kind" of philosphy - but if you study it, you'll know. That, what we academicly call "philosophy" is based on what Socrates, plato etc. did. As I said, the distinction is very thin, but it's a logical one. Asian philosphy is just another kind of epistemology and not comparable to the greek origins.

@Kathrinoyo Actually, What came to be known as western Philosophy didn't start in Athens. I believe that the Ionian Greeks of Asia minor (today Turkey) pioneered it. And when you said the Philosophy of today. We should have specified western philosophy. Confucius philosophy for instance has no Greek origin.

@petion2010 in point of philosophy: no. THE philosophy we are talking about today is solely descendant of the athenian culture. You're right, all other high-cultures even before had a kind of philosophy, but it isn't comparable. There are multiple differences, but the core of gaining perception in greek philosophy derives not - as it had been in other culture - from godlike deities alone. That and the linguistical and logical foundation made greek philosophy step out.
