this is a strohcello. it is a cello with a membrane under the bridge, amplified in a gramophone horn. it exists since the beginning of the XX° century, but is extremely rare. this one is new, hand-made. contact : fsarhan@fsarhan.net

    right !

  • does the strohcello exists into contrabbass version? if yes can someone make a video of it?

    i'm curious.

The strohcello made me wondering that someone has thought of an amplified musical instrument into the past before the invention of the electric guitar.:-)

  • @ranmadog

the whole family used to exist, until guitar, mandolin.

the problem with the double bass is that if one wants to respect the relation between acoustic and the size of the horn, it becomes enormous.

And the cello is already quite problematic. ever found any of the originals made by Johannes Stroh.

  • I am very intrigued by this approach. As some here have mentioned, this arrangement seems to make your mid-range tones a little punchier than a traditional cello. It has a slight edge, tonally speaking, but I find it to be quite pleasing, particularly with your great playing technique. Very cool! :)

  • The similarity to a bassoon in its lower range is interesting, considering that bassoons were often substituted for cellos in early acoustic recordings. This was primarily the reason why Stroh developed these instruments: to make stringed instruments that recorded well...
