Freshmen Move-In Day 2010 (Thursday, Aug. 26) went more smoothly than ever. Students (and families) moving in to the Harborview residence hall were given staggered times when they could arrive. The result: We did NOT have several hundred vehicles lining up on Howard Avenue at 7 a.m. Families drove past the gatehouse, waited a few minutes in line to park in front of Harborview, and were unloaded by several of the 150 student volunteers -- fraternity and sorority members, Nubian Student Union members, orientation peer leaders and residence assistants -- on hand to assist. The large tubs on wheels were shuttled up the elevators, quickly unloaded, and returned to the parking area to unload the next family's vehicle. In all, about 320 of the 400 resident freshmen were unloaded on Move-In Day; about 80 freshmen had already moved in for football practice or other pre-semester activities.
