  • I would add Francis Bacon to the list. People believed him to be the author of Shakespeare's plays for a reason. Other than that, great choices! My personal favourite is Schopenhauer.

    Socrates didn't write anything. In fact, we only know about what he said through his student Plato, as well as a number of others such as the historian Xenophon and the play write Aristophanes.

  • @godriczimmerman I guess we disagree about the reasonableness of confident belief in reason and the extent to which faith is justified by perceived limitations of rational discourse or the power of reason our ape species is empowered by. In any case faith in visible, or the bleeding obvious isn't the same and nor does it warrant faith in the unproven, lacking in evidence invisible.
