@panovp I dont think Gruberova is the best in this role, maybe for today but Sills is the best Elisabetta ever, Caballe, Gencer and Gruberova as runner up"

Well she does this scene marvelously. She sings with all the fierceness necesasary for the moment. But her final scene at the end of the opera she seems to perform as if it were a Mad Scene. Queen Elizabeth I did not go mad after Deveraux was executed. She was angry and sad but not crazy. I do like Theodossiou's voice however and she is a great Queen in this opera.

Commanding! She's got a great voice, though I do prefer Pendatchanskas Queen Elizabeth. She's better than any others. Many like Gencer and all the good old singers from the golden age, as do I, but in this one it is Pendatchanska and Caballé that wins. Wish I had this with Maria Callas in her prime... that would really be something.
