An interview with the guy who invented jokes like the on-the-rocks glass other items sold in joke/magic stores. From HBO pilot circa 1992: "News 2 Us" starring Richard Rosen and Merrill Markoe.
If it were up to me, I'd like to make Merrill Markoe an "honorary" original cast member with Stuart Pankin and company. That would make her the fourth female, along with Anne Bloom, Lucy Webb, and Audrie Neenan. I wasn't impressed with Annabelle Gurwitch, but she got better with her "Fired" book and movie, or Tom Parks, just as well.
In the fall of 1990, Merrill Markoe came off her stint from the new "Not Necessarily the News" thinking "Why am I doing this?" To make lemonade out a lemon, which was that show, she and fellow castmate Richard Rosen did their own show called "News to Us," which was funnier than "NNTN" itself by that time. In fact, Merrill was the only good thing on that show. It's too bad she wasn't a regular cast member during the 1983-88 run since she was living and working with David Letteman.
