The GPS signal is received by the iGPS360 module from satellites in the sky (no internet needed for that). The maps and directions have been downloaded in advance to the iPod before I left home (so also no internet needed for that). :-)

The iPod does not have an internal GPS. Only the newer iPhones do.

It's using your WiFi network to determine your location. Turn WiFi off and you will see it won't be able to locate you.

Yes, it works worldwide, including Malaysia. Just check if Google has maptiles available for Malaysia.
