  • why would you post video of the engine going backward and not a complete runby

  • I got one camera and it works to capture still pictures and videos as well. I did my still pictures when the engine runby forward and capture videos when it is backward. I always put still pictures in very first place and videos are minor.

  • Enjoyed the train itself but was really lacking in good action.I watch these train videos with my two year old son who loves trains. However even he got bored and ran off to play.My advice, dont film them going backwards so much.Although the train is faster in reverse, there still needs some good forward motion to keep people interested no matter how slow she is.Great train though.

  • @4freespeech Wait wait wait wait........................

They had a 2-6-2? Cause thats what a praie class engine is. Cause when I was watching my Pentrex DVD they said they were gonna by a chinese 2-10-0 or somthing, and even that sounds wrong cause the only WMSRR steam loco I have ever seen is big and beautiful 734 here.

  • That engine was built strictly for low speed power. That's why the huge boiler and little driver wheels. The valve gear was set up to put all 4 power strokes, (2 per cylinder per revolution), nearer the beginning of the wheel turn making maximum torque for starting heavy trains like coal drags, thus you hear 1234--1234--1234--, instead of 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4.

They found the perfect engine for that section of steep track. The engine before this one was a goocher. It used to chug down & nearly stop.

  • They finally found an engine with a BIIIGGG boiler and little wheels so

it has enough strength to make it up the hills by itself. Some genius brought in a prairie engine before this one that was prettier to look at, with a sleek boiler and high drivers, but it would chug down and almost crap out on the trip, so they had to use a stink-pot diesel to help push it. Must be a few people among those Cumberland rocket-scientists who knew about mountain railroading, 'cause it looks alright now.

  • The H-8s were the ones WM had with the front air pumps. 2-8-0 Consolidations like 734 had them mounted on the side.

  • great video but I still fel they should move the air pumps to the front of the boiler like on the origional WM enginesI belive if I remember right from origional WM photos they were on the front of the smokebox door still a very impressive engine I have yet to see a photo freight

  • The origional tender was destroyed in a fire but is still at the wmsr shops. The larger one it has now came off of a NYC Mohawk and is needed to make the long trip through the mountains.

  • when did 734 get that large tender?

  • my keyboard is broken and question marks are disabled, but this is a question.

do they still use steam trains for freight as this one is doing.

  • Backward or forward!! it`s a great movie.

Beautiful loc and very nice landscape.

I want to go there but it`s 12 hours traveling by airplane.

    Fortunately you make excelent video`s
