Never forget in '81 traveling to state playoff football game out of town. 4 different boom boxes on the team bus. Somehow, miraculously, they all end up on the same station with this song on. We all start singing, 50 guys, we all know the words. Coaches start yelling at us to stop...the second the coaches stop yelling....the chorus hits. We defiantly belt it out twice as loud as if the chorus lyrics apply to them. They get it, start laughing, and sit down. Strength in numbers,man. Good times.

You know... I always thought of myself as somewhat of a good guitarist; bass, rhythm, lead, etc. But in the face of such artistic monoliths, I find myself so humbled, in the presence of such greatness. I like to think I paid my fair share of dues, but to reach the scales, heights and reaches of music as the Eagles, is to say that we all believe in one universe and the firm notion of extra terrestrials. Beings of such greatness, power and influence in the world population of our planet earth.

So many of us men have been through this and lived to tell the story. We were "the other guy" from across town. We knew that no matter how much love we had to give that it wouldn't be enough. Not enough to change her, not enough to take her away for good. I often wonder if that big house gets lonely, and if she ever thinks of the same moments I often do. Once again, and like they always do, Don and Glenn have written the soundtrack of our lives.

When my children were young (back in the 70's), my husband and I took them to Baltimore to visit relatives. I was driving during the long night. Everyone was asleep but me when this song came on the radio. Boy, being a long song and a great one, it made the time go by better. AND I finally understood the words 'and your smile is a thin disguise.' Up until then, I didn't know what the Eagles were saying. This song is a classic; it never gets old.
