The orchestra is the LA Philharmonic. The actor--I guess unknown to your generation--is Gregory Peck. Go out and rent "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Twelve O'Clock High," and "Roman Holiday," and you will know why people of my generation miss him. He also portrayed Lincoln in the TV miniseries "The Blue and the Gray."

This is an amazing video! Who is the performing orchestra? And who is the narrator? I have heard versions of this song before, but this is the best!

The best choice for showing as a tribute to Lincoln -- this has no weird pop-up statements explaining the few blank spots. Highly recommended, especially for educators.

Glad you enjoyed it. Sorry about the gaps.

No, i meant that as a compliment! There's another version of the same video with some distracting speech balloons that pop up during the gaps. They are supposed to help, but they are really annoying. I prefer yours, esp. for teaching. Thanks for posting it!

Somewhere, believe it or not, there is a recording of Margaret Thatcher narrating "A Lincoln Portrait." I'd love to find it. Dennis

it was apparently done back in the early 90s at the height of her popularity...part of a tribute to Lincoln and democracy she made. Can't even find it on Ebay. Peck is still the best, although I'd love to have copies of Marian Anderson and Coretta Scott King doing it.
