How to pull old fence post.

I needed to replace my old fence and thought of a way to pull the fence poles with the winch on my 4 wheeler.

That got the job done on a "not too deep, not too much concrete" post. The Oz-Puller is pretty impressive for a "non motor powered" post puller. Works on steel poles, wood, even broken off posts.

@chainsawchips The Oz-puller had about 80 Lbs. of concrete. Does look good. I was using the stuff I had around the house. Just an idea. Trying to help people. Most of the poles I pulled had about no bigger than a 40 Lbs. of concrete.

That is a really small fence post

@joedelarios The fence post is 5-1/2' long. I pulled about 13 poles. Out of 13 I had trouble with 1 or 2. The roots from the oak tree was raped.

If you wrap a chain around the post a couple times then put you winch on it. It does the same thing but don't have to drill any holes. The chain might slide up a little but push down in the opposite side of the winch with your foot so the chain grabs a bite.

Hey imperial, I have a few questions:

1.) Is the star picket "Y" fence post less likely to pull off the ground than a "square based" fence post when just comparing the two?

2.) If i want to install either one into the ground, can i use a hammer to bang them in or would i have to dig a hole first? Which one will make the fence post less like to be pulled off the ground?

Then I simply jacked up the fence post. A couple times I needed to re-drill the carriage bolt hole and repeat the jacking, for uncooperative fence posts. Worked like a charm and didn't really require any special tools other than a floor jack & electric drill. :)

@Apoc57 Here's how I easily removed a bunch of 4x4 fence-posts stuck at least 4 feet into the earth: I bought the thickest carriage bolt I could find; I think they were 1/2" thick. Placed a concrete sidewalk stone up against the post (a thick flat piece of wood will work well too). Put my handy-dandy 2.5 ton floor jack on the sidewalk stone and marked where I could drill the fence post at the jack's lowest setting. Drilled hole, inserted carriage bolt. Placed jack cup just beneath the bolt-head.

cuz BA 4wheeler with a winch is standard equipment in most homes? and put some clothes on, there are children on youtube. 80's style

I use a Hi-Lift jack to pull 4x4 posts and it works pretty good. You really looked out of breath after pulling that little post.

you should block your suspension so it doesn't compress.

At the beginning when you're saying what you will need to do the project, you mention the drill bits, chain, and rebar, but you didn't mention the 4-WHEELER WITH WENCH!
