A couple of months ago I bought Return of Double Dragon for the Super Famicom and just wanted to show you all how different the gameplay is compared to Super Double Dragon. At some moments I really got my ass handed to me as you all will see.

Some of the major differences are:

- Enemies do more damage.
- Enemies can evade your moves.
- Music on most levels is swapped or just completely different.
- Weapons do a lot more damage when used by Billy or Jimmy.
- Weapons do less damage when used by enemies.
- Enemies block more and use special attacks a lot more
- The hurricane kick deals multiple hits instead of just one.
- There is an option menu where you can listen to the music, change settings like difficulty and how much continues.
- The final mission is much longer and in the end completely different than SDD.
- There is no story when you finish the game.
- Duke is a fucking asshole compared to the one in SDD as are practically all the enemies in this version and especially on hard.
- Oh yeah, there's a hard mode now.
- Enemies throwing boomerangs catch them with their hands on their return instead of catching them with their face.
- Molotovs and knifes are reduced in damage when hit.

  • I thought this version was supposed to have a story. Like some scenes in between missions or something.

  • @blackjaguar324 No there is absolutely no story in between or even an ending. A real disappointment but what it lacks in story it makes up in gameplay. I have played practically every retro side scrolling brawler on the face of this planet and none has ever come close to the fighting system that this game has. The depth of this fighting system is something future Double Dragon games should be build on, that is if there will ever be a next generation Double Dragon game.

  • You are the true Double Dragon!

  • @diekstiekem A true Double Dragon would not lose any lives let alone continues. It was just my first playthrough of the game on hard though, but practice makes perfect.

  • @VideoGamePervert And I thought I was the only one in the face of this planet who thought that. This is the only game (of ALL the games I've ever played until now, including all genres) that I NEVER, NEVER get bored of. I can play just this game for weeks, and I can't get bored, even if I try to. Maybe it's because the depth of the fighting system, just as you said, plus the music.

  • SDD blocking system + Streets of Rage III dashing and backwards attacks = perfect 2D beat 'em up game. Can't believe no one got around to combining the two yet.
