An image slideshow of the blizzard of March 1888. Snowfalls of 40-50 inches fell in parts of New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The wind and conditions were so bad that it was like a hurricane.

P.S. As a lover of snow, part of me wishes I was there. Then the other part reminds me it was 1888 and I would be trapped in my home for up to a week! Wow.

The music is 'Amid The Falling Snow' by Enya.

  • We get snow like that in Cleveland every day.

  • Cleveland HAS gotten a bit of snow lately....but I doubt they have gotten 15 to 50 feet a day. *lol* This storm wouldn't have been famous if it happened to major cities everyday.

  • world of 15 to 50 feet by March 1888 by Wikipedia.com of Blizzard

  • I can't even imagine that much snow. What happened to the snow of our grandparent's stories? The snow so deep you had to crawl out the second floor windows, and there wasn't any school for a week?! That snow! Where is it? *longful sigh* :) Thanks for the comment...it's made me want to go sledding or something else rash! *l*

  • I hope we have a storm like this!!! March must have been perfect!!! Right when people have had enough of winter and are expecting spring, KABLANGO!!! We really need storms like this.

  • It was because of the blizzard of 1888,the subways in NYC was decided to be built.

  • I'd rather have the snowstorms than the Heat Waves!

  • Typically here in new york city if we get 6-8 inches of snow in march, at least 95% of all accumulating snow is gone within a week. I wonder how long it took for THIS snow to melt back in 1888!!!

  • Are we ready for our next blizzard?? hehehe

  • 2:59 did the Ralph Kramden bus travel through time??? ;)

  • I know I was just kidding. Buffalo probably gets close to this tho.

  • Bigggest storm in all of HISTORY.
