This video shows several pieces that were requested to be finished with a snow effect. The video discusses some of the snow features including icicles. These pieces are suitable for use with 28mm and 6mm scale games such as Epic, Warhammer, LORT and Warmachine.

  • AH! he shows his face! lol I must have missed the last video you had that format..! haha

  • @Melthornal I don't know that brand, but I find with the Rustoleum brand that applying too heavy of a layer will actually begin to increase the shine. It works best as a light layer. Might try that or shift to a better product like DullCote.

  • those icicles are amazing

  • @Terranscapes

I think maybe having stuff poking through like rocks and grass could have the effect of a more spotted edge, without having to do it with the snow material alone?

  • @Terranscapes I have tried Plaid Matte Acrylic Sealer and it resulted in the model becoming very shiny. Is plaid a bad brand, or am I doing it wrong?

  • @chicophi220 Good points. I am having trouble producing a proper scale edge effect. The plaster basing needs to be painted and trying to go over a really fine jagged edge would be tough. I have considered abandoning the plaster but its tough to get total opacity for the snow without creating piles, which are then really tough to seal. The snow doesn't absorb liquids - its really pretty hydrophobic, even with wetting agents. You give me a good area to focus on however. I'll ponder it more.

  • @Hammerpaints I agree. Snow seems to be the most challenging finish for a good gaming surface.
