Latino groups from Fallbrook and other areas participated in two special combined entries in the Fallbrook Christmas Parade this past Saturday. Their aim was to share their indigenous and lowrider culture with the community. The parade entries consisted of 5 lowrider car clubs, an Aztec dance troupe and youth with lowrider bicycles.

These particular entries are headed by two known Fallbrook community leaders whose families are some of Fallbrook's Latino immigrant pioneers.

Elfego Covarrubias is currently the Captain of the Pala fire station, and has organized 5 lowrider car clubs to participate in his entry. The clubs include Members Only, Low for Show, Groupe San Diego, Groupe Riverside, and Wise Guys Tint Shop.

Ricardo Favela is currently the Secretary of the California Service Area 81, a San Diego County Parks and Recreation committee that represents Fallbrook and Rainbow.

Ricardo helped form a traditional Aztec dance group (known as Danza Cuauhtemoc) in Fallbrook that will be participating in the combined entry with the lowrider clubs. Members of Danza Cuauhtemoc's Los Angeles and Riverside chapters will be joining the local Fallbrook chapter for the parade.

This is Ricardo's 7th year organizing an entry consisting of Aztec dancers, lowrider vehicles, lowrider bicycles and Latino youth. The first entry was in 2003, and this entry has been one of the first Latino themed entries in the Fallbrook Christmas Parade.

Elfego helped improve the entry by inviting more car clubs to participate in last year's Christmas parade. This is their second year working together.

According to Ricardo, "Through this entry, we celebrate our past and present culture with the Fallbrook community. Our families, as workers in the avocado and nursery industries, have established deep roots in this community, and we have made significant contributions as well. This is our opportunity to celebrate who we are together with the larger Fallbrook community, and we are adding to Fallbrook's cultural history."
