Mark Schultz(Univ. of Oklahoma---1981 NCAA Champ at 167 lbs.) vs. Ed Banach(Univ. of Iowa---1980 and 1981 NCAA Champ at 177 lbs.) wrestle in the 1982 NCAA Finals at 177 lbs. This match is considered one of the greatest wrestling matches in NCAA Finals history. Each wrestler went on to win 3 individual NCAA Wrestling Championships, and Gold Medals at the 1984 Olympics.

Some commentators surprise me with what they think is going on... Schultz completely dominating on the feet and riding??? It looked like it could have gone either way! He EDGED out Banach when it counted. I had no idea somebody out there gave Schultz such trouble... all I ever heard about was Schultz over the years... I didn't hear much about this Banach who obviously was a force; even beat Schultz once. Mark (and Dave) are still heroes to me.. just want to know more about Banach.
