Overview, shooting, and evaluation of the Speer Gold Dot, 9mm 147 grain. Test platform was a Glock 19, 4 inch barrel, using jugs packed with wet newspaper. Chronographed velocity (5 shot average) was 992 fps, 321 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle.

This is a heavy-for-caliber load, which opens the debate regarding overpenetration and lack of expansion when compared to lighter, faster loads in the same caliber.

On this channel, there is also a test for the Gold Dot 124 gr +P, which is also compared to the 147 gr at the end of this video.

PLEASE NOTE: This test was in a controlled environment, illustrating possible ballistics; these results are not guaranteed. Self-defense scenarios contain multiple variables that will impact ballistic performance. The law-abiding citizen bears ultimate responsibility for their ammunition choice and insuring reliability in their handgun.

  • Great presenting style, very natural, and also very concise, you just got yourself another subscriber.

  • @mrmactknife

Thanks! This was one of the first tests, I try to keep them even more concise now and under 5 minutes if at all possible.

  • I just ordered a box of 100 of the 147 grain from Midway.

Question: Why is there deeper penetration from a heavier, slower 147 grain bullet?

    Love your video reviews.

  • @Owl1024

I'm not a physicist, but it seems that momentum takes longer to come to a halt with the heavier bullet, and 147's usually don't expand as much as 124's. I noticed this with I restested my earlier tests (mid 2009) in late 2010, using denim. Bullet design of course is a factor. Since there seem to be more options in 115 gr, look at how a polymer tipped bullet penetrates vs. lead/copper JHP in the same media.

  • TESTING THIS IN DENIM, LATE NOV/EARLY DEC. 2010.

  • Of all the people that do ammo tes; on youtube I consider you the most "professional" and unbias. I really like that you dont try to be an "end of all" expert. Keep up the good work.

  • @jeshely

Thanks. What I show is only a representation, or opinion. And you know what they say about opinions. Don't take what happens here as gospel, good or bad. I cannot emphasize that enough.

  • Good stuff

  • def. good video's man ! You have a thumb up and a new sub !

  • @bigboss686 i agree ive always prefered heavy for caliber 180 grain 30-06 158 grain 357 except in 38 special i like the 125 or 130 +p

  • GREAT VIDEO! VERY PROFESSIONAL

  • Krinky got WHORED! !!!

  • Krinky got whores. LoL

  • @545Krinkify LOL more loser talk from a born loser, that's all you are and all you'll ever be.

All you can do is toss insults because YOU HAVE NO FACTUAL EVIDENCE TO BACK YOUR CLAIMS.

The evidence is on my side completely, whether it's the experts at the FBI or the backyard ballistics, the VAST majority backs up my view, not yours.

so hurling insults and, the more you do the worst to look in the more everyone knows how thoroughly you've been beaten in this discussion.

  • @545Krinkify You said the 124 out did 147 in EVERY test, so back it up bitch. Oh that's right, you can't because I linked to the FBI data that says you're wrong, an posted links to the videos from this very channel. It also says you're wrong LOL. The expansion from that test is the EXCEPTION, NOT the norm You have no credibility, no intelligence and no hope to improve based on this interaction. Enjoy living your life being second-place to people like me, you should be used to it by now. Bitch

  • @545Krinkify Sorry, you lose again HST147 /watch?v=PNRqrJRq4T0 124+p GD /watch?v=fdXfDcY-0gU but thanks for playing.

HST 147 expanded to .66 124G +P GD expanded to .61. 13 inches of penetration for both.

Now, what was that about 124 plus peak performing better in all testing?

Oh, another crash and burn for you dummy. Now, next time try looking at ALL the data instead of just cherry picking. LOL you are really, really bad at this.

  • @545Krinkify Call you whatever I like, besides it's better than dummy. I figured you could use a break from that name after hearing it your whole life from your parents, grandparents and every teacher you ever had in school, dummy. Physics is irrelevant when both bullets perform roughly the same, FPS is marketing propaganda

BTW if TN's videos supposedly prove the superiority of the 124 +P do explain the fact that his videos on the 147g HST equal or exceed its performance, you fail again.
