The blockers are the defending points. They can legally slow the jammer or actually knock her off her feet.

when a lead jammer starts to come up to the pack, she just passes skaters? Is there ANY defending capability for the oposinmg team in this sport?

Blockers and pivots can keep her from passing through and scoring points...but it can be handed off to a pivot if the pivot is having better luck...keeps the scoring higher and more exciting...but also a bit harder to shoot...you get used to the star on the helmet being the ball, so you have to watch the ref signaling too.

Sorry about the camera movement during the first half...a photographer had got into the shot and I had to try to shoot arround her and the refs...which was fixed at the half by changing shooting location which was even better of a vantage.
Shooting around people and camera movement makes things look shakey so I had to fix what I can in editing...so sorry about that.
