  • What kind of SSD are you using? Brand, Model and etc....

    Thanks

  • @a1r9a83 The one in this particular example is an Intel X25-M G2 80GB drive. That model has been replaced by the Intel 320-series SSDs.

These days, the Intel X25-M G2 isn't the best-of-the-best SSD. However, it is still a very solid performer, and a very reliable drive.

  • @blazorblazorblazor67 So, a 4.5 year old laptop with an SSD is still faster than your new $1200 desktop that is less than 1 year old.

Do you see why a $200 SSD is a good upgrade?

  • Where did the Apple-style volume indicator come from?

  • @aednichols The Apple-style volume indicator is an app called 3RVX from a guy named Matthew Malensk. If you Google "3RVX", you should find Matt's web page as the first link, and download it from there.

  • @cheesejrr Then I challenge you to prove it. Post a video of your iMac booting and opening 27 applications, and see how long it takes.

Yeah, it is a work laptop. But it's *MY* work laptop. Of course Steam goes on there! :-P

  • DAFUQ?!

  • So if i only install windows 7 on the SSD, and all my other stuff on my HDD, will windows still be this fast?

  • I installed windows 7 on my SSD (which is a portable Samsung 840 series 128GB). I then ran windows, Installed all the drivers for it to run properly on my pc (NOT MAC) and guess what, it's running, it's fast, I'm still using it & BAM!! It freezes :( Why do SSD's freeze?

I updated the firmware (Using Samsung Magician Software) on the SSD yet that doesn't result in any positive outcomes. This used to happen on my "OCZ Vertex 3" which I returned to get the Samsung.

  • its not a solid state disk... theres no disk. its drive. just a solid state drive.

  • I want to get an SSD. Since they are expensive ill be buying the 80gb capacity drives. If I install windows 7 home, how many gigs will it take up?

  • @kent1146 And now you can almost get a 250GB one for the same price :) technology is great. Probably less than 3 years and a 1TB SSD will be under $250.

  • @mario11168 They're just trying to recover their R&D, give it a few more years and they'll be cheap as any mechanical drive, which will cause mechanical drives to be phased out, just like floppy discs.

  • @jojotjuh Apple products are a bit like religion, which are both like a penis. It's fine to have one, it's fine to be proud of it, but please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around, and whatever you do, don't try to shove it down other people's throats.

  • I love SSDs as well! My work has been upgrading the 7 year old Dell desktops running Pentium 4 CPUs with 30GB OCZ SSDs and even those have stupid fast startup speeds with Windows 7 32 bit. Can't wait to scrape together the cash to build my own desktop with the OS on a dedicated SSD.
