- After WWII, USSR bewared of an arms warfare against USA because their political viewpoints were dissimilar. But it was not as foreseen when this war happened in my poor small country.
America was not successful to educate Vietnameses about Freedom. The lifestyles of two countries were too different - typical character of american culture is liberty, freedom, democracy; typical character of vietnamese culture is ceremony, ritual, conservative - USA never understand, America is also a country of the world, America is not the world.
- The ideal of Americans: The american young men at that time thought that they went to Vietnam for fighting against poverty, unjusty. And it was a civil war in Vietnam, they were just a combatant of the republic of South Vietnam. They called it vietnamese war (war of vietnameses).
- The ideal of Vietnameses: For 100 years was colonized by the French, the pride of Vietnamese people had lived with an opinion: "Vietnamese king is not Vietnamese leader, we belong to our country, but our country doesn't belong to us". They were afraid that this thing would happen again when France went, America came. So no way, this red blood, yellow skin nation let the white lead them once more time.
Their definition of Republic of South Vietnam: ""There were people against it, there would be people for it" is a simple thing". They thought that these people were just a good equipment to let America parachute into Vietnam. Most of them didn't approve that it was a civil war; with them it was one of American tacticses: "using Vietnameses to fight against Vietnameses".
In addition, USA paid 1,5 billion USD of France's war effort and France surely couldn't pay back after the battle of Điện Biên Phủ, then America came into South Vietnam; this thing made Vietnameses people misunderstand that South Vietnam was the mortgage of France for paying America off, so they called it American war (war against Americans).
- It was a political war between communism and capitalism in Vietnam.

the US and the west starved vietnam right up til recently. aid to vietnam was stopped and thousands starved. In the end the US won the economic war and strangled vietnam into accepting US free market trade. now the gap between rich and poor is worse than before the war. The US even supported POL POT right till he died and during the genocide, simply because he was enemies with vietnam. The INVASION of vietnam was a war crime .

The Vietnamese taugh the American empire a hard earn lesson. We gave the American imperialist army its single only loss in US history. Vietnam is the first and only nation that has defeated 3 superpowers that in United Nations (UN) security council (France, USA, China).
