Rent Tribute @ The 2008 Tony Awards

Whoopi Goldberg announces Anthony Rapp who then announces the current Broadway cast Rent singing "La Vie Boheme." They are then joined by the OBC of Rent and everyone -including the audience- sings "Seasons of Love." It is a very emotional tribute both to Jonathan Larson as well as the show which just performed its 5,028th performance. Rent closes on Broadway on September 7, 2008 after 12 seasons of love.

Does anyone else think it's really touching when the camera zooms in on Lin Manuel Miranda giving a standing ovation? In The Heights was constantly compared to Rent and Miranda himself said he was really inspired by Rent since it was the only show that took place in "real time" and was about "real issues." I don't know...I just think it's nice that the creator of the best new show recognizes the amazing beauty of Rent ten years after it made such a huge impact on Broadway.

Patti Lupone is awesome! I also really like the huge round of applause Idina Menzel got from the fans in the audience as soon as she started to talk

I know I couldn't believe Jesse wasn't there either!! But I think he's filming that Marvin Gaye movie that he's always wanted to be a part of. I'm sure it will be amazing!

I just started crying watching that. I just wish I had been able to see it on broadway... By the time I got to go to New York, the Nederlander was just a shell of what it used to be. Rent changed my life. It's caused me to want to go out and change the world. To help people. I have the highest respect for anyone who has taken part in anything that has to do with this show. Thank you, Jonathon Larson...

It's just amazing how after all these years, they still sound incredible.

Now, I have never seen it on Broadway, nor on any stage, but I have seen the movie.

I watch videos ALL the time of it on Broadway and it seemed so wonderful.....

Rent changed my life and it made me realized I need to live today like it's my last, and love the people around me.

Thank you Jonathon Larson, you changed peoples lives.

GAAAH, love Adam Kantor. A lot of people don't agree with me, but hey, I'm willing to be a part of a minority, lol. Kantor's funny, adorable, and has awesome comedic timing. I LOVE him on the 2008 DVD.
