From April 1946 the medium Minnie Harrison established a home circle, which regularly held sittings for a decade. Different types of phenomena appeared including telekinesis, spirit writing, spirit lights, spirit voices, apports and as one of the sitters reported -- "fully materialised spirit people in their ectoplasmic robes, walking amongst us, conversing with us, shaking hands, embracing and kissing one another in exactly the same way that we greet our friends and loved ones here on the earth plane." The spirit voices often came from a trumpet, a cylindrical device that was widely used from the beginning of experimental spiritualism. It was believed to be a condenser of psychic energy to increase the volume of the spirit voices.

Ab Mitte der 1940er-Jahre, für gut ein Jahrzehnt lang, bildete sich um das englische Medium Minnie Harrsion ein spiritistischer Zirkel. Bei den Sitzungen, die regelmäßig in ihrem Haus stattfanden, trat eine Vielzahl von Phänomenen auf: Telekinese, „Geisterschrift", Lichter und Stimmen, Apporte und, wie einer der Teilnehmer berichtete: „vollständig materialisierte und in ektoplastische Gewänder gehüllte spirit people, die sich unter uns bewegten, sich mit uns unterhielten, Hände schüttelten und einander genauso umarmten und küssten, wie wir in der irdischen Sphäre unsere Freunde und Lieben grüßen." Die „Geisterstimmen" ertönten häufig aus einer Trompete, einer zylinderförmigen Röhre, wie sie seit den frühen Tagen des experimentellen Spiritismus in Gebrauch war. Das Instrument vermochte -- so die Auffassung -- die parapsychische Energie zu „kondensieren" und auf diese Weise die Lautstärke der Kommunikation zu erhöhen.
