  • Actually, that is not what we are saying. The point of STEP-NC is to move a richer description of the process and what is being made around to everything that can work on it. A CNC gets a model of what is being made for better collision checking, integrating machining and measurement with probes or other scanning devices, better 5-axis compensation, plus applicable tolerances for better feed-speed optimization or other improvements. Simulators and other apps can use the better data too.

  • I really don't see the point of this - it seems more like a gimmick, than anything else. I get what you are saying - make the model more generic, and make the machine controller/embedded computer do the work of interpolating how to machine the part. You aren't reducing the amount of design work required, just offloading from the par t designer to the machine designer. Yeah, you'll say "but machine only has to be designed once", yeah, but it would have to be PERFECT or it will fail.

  • Great compilation of video from a great conference. STEP NC has a bright and promising future thanks to the hard work of all involved.
