Under Britain we turned Hongkong, a place with no resources, into one of the worlds richest citys by far, a decade under China and its shrunk to just another large city. It may not have gotten poorer per say, but its streak of astounding progress left the same day as the British.

I personally think that not only Ireland should reunite, but also the British Isles should reunite. Our best years as a people were when we worked together. We should build a Union based on peace rather than domination and the British Isles can be great again. The EU is far too different from the British Isles. You are still ignoring the fact that China itself is an Empire that has been growing until very recently, currently by some definitions.

How are the ex-colonies backward shams? The are the wealthiest, healthies places on Earth on average. Look at HK, a place with no resources once the richest place on the planet. Under China it has fallen and its just another large city.

Really? My Chinese professor here in Japan (though an American women) taught us that a few years prior the government had forced the local population to evacuate HongKong over internal affairs.
