County health departments, under tremendous pressure to control costs and maintain program quality, face additional challenges as an expanding number of patients contend for care providers in short supply.
Recently, the Northeastern North Carolina Partnership for Public Health (NENCPPH) needed a proven strategy to meet these challenges. They chose lean and partnered with the lean experts from NC States Industrial Extension Service (IES) to bring lean thinking and a lean culture to their facilities. With IES help, the NENCPPH was able to improve processes such as billing, the filing of insurance and the workload schedules for home health facilities, so that patients would receive better care.
In this video, four departments from the NENCPPH discuss their successful continuous improvement journey and how lean thinking cut their costs while improving work processes and patient care.
