Also Check out www.stuffthatsgone.com The 1907 Alignment of the Pennsylvania Railroad running through Indiana and Westmoreland Counties featured 4 beautiful stone arch bridges prior to going through a tunnel. In 1950 the Conemaugh dam was constructed to hold back flood waters that buried Pittsburgh in 1936. As a result this alignment had to be raised and moved to the south. The West Penn Bike trail was constructed a few years ago and when the flood waters are not over the top of the bridges you can enjoy a short but very visual ride. With the missing link bridge being finished later this year this trail will be able to travel for several more miles east. This section can be accessed from several points of US 22 East.

  • I am one of the volunteers who fix the posts on that bridge and clean the trail. It's a really good trail to bike on!

  • @freebirg it would be my favorite if it were longer!!!

  • wouldn't it be easier to roll your bike up that nice little "rail" at the side of the stairs?

  • yes that is exactly what you do

  • you should get a chop saw and cut into there and see if theres anything cool

  • @poorringo that cememetary was is an old movie "the night of the living dead" it was called

  • yeah I grew up in the are and my dad would always warn me about the river. First it was about packs of wild dogs. Apparently people would let their dogs they didn't want lose in the river area. Also, in Blairsville there is an old cememetary they moved, but failed to move the stones pushed over the hill.

  • We use to go to the tunnel and bridge at night as tennagers to scare the lving bejesus out of each other. The rumor existed that wild dogs lived in the tunnel and would come and get you if you hung out too long. There was also a cemetary in the area that was pretty scary at night too.

  • Very interesting video! I like watching video's of historic exploration. Especially where the railroad was involved! There are many 'ghost' railways in our area and I plan on doing some video hikes soon now that the leaves are down. I'm going to watch more of your video's!

    Thanks for sharing this!
