This is a quick Video guide (installation) for a ProSport smoked boost gauge in a 2004 Ion Redline. This video is intended for RedlineForums.com. Should work with any year Ion Redline.

just a quick written walk through to clear up areas.

1 - if your gauge does not come with a T-adapter you will need to buy one, hit up a local Canadian tire or hardware store. If you go to Canadian Tire, go to the Hose section in Automotive, it has like fuel lines, clamps, and adapters in it. And there is a package of like 6 t-adapters and its like 5 bucks.

2- Get yourself some Fuel hose, or Vacuum hose. Fuel hose is like $2.99 and will get the job done, Vacuum hose is like $8.99+ depending on the kit. At Canadian Tire again, its in the section with the T-adapters, get a 2foot 3/16s hose.

3- YOU WILL need 1 hose to hose adapter, get a 3/16 one (Canadian tire/hardware store, their plastic, and at Canadian Tire you get 6, 3 sets of different sizes for $3 bucks). most likely the gauge (LIKE MINE) will come with a hose, its usually 1/8. you can just soak the 1/8 hose in warm/hot water and work it over the 3/16 adapter. If for some reason your gauge does not come with a hose, pick up like 10feet of 1/8 clear hose.

4- like i said in the video, punch a hole (use screw driver) through the rubber plug in the firewall, and push the hose through, it is a tight spot, so you might have to go in through the interior, under the steering wheel and push it through there depending on your situation, every installation is going to be a bit different. But punching the whole through the engine side to get things started, is easier then fighting under the steering column since its cramped and dark. I tired that first, using a knife to slice a hole by fighting under the steering column and almost stabbed myself 2-3 times, so just make it easy on yourself and use the screw driver method!

The rubber plug is under the carpet, under the fire protective covering. you will have to give it (the fire covering) a good pull and some might crack/rip, don't worry about it, the carpet will cover it. peel it back, and the hole is WAY up too the left, you'll see 1 smaller rubber plug hole, the 2nd larger one is about 3-4ins above it, that' where the hose should go through. This part is the hardest, because you are going to have to twist and turn to get up and find this hole. Pull or push the hose through the hole you made with the screw driver, you might have to stick a larger screw driver or your finger through after to make sure its a decent sized hole and easy to pass the hose through.

WIRING
5- When wiring, it comes with 3 wires... 2 are positive, and 1 is ground. What i did was just twisted the two positives together. in the instructions it talked about 1 going to ignition, and 1 to lighting, i didn't get the point of that since it is a mechanical gauge. Anyway, the item from Radio Shack is just a cigarette lighter plug in adapter, it has a button on it, and the two wires running out are bare on the end, one will have a piece of tape saying POSITIVE. Just wire the 2 positives from the gauge to the AC plug adapter Positive wire, and the ground from the gauge to the ground/return on the AC plug adapter. *if you are using one of these... if not, just find a power source on your car, check under steering column and wire up there. Same thing though, two positive wires to a positive connection, and the ground to a return line to complete the series. If its not working, chances are your ground/return line is not good, that is what most likely will happen if it doesn't light up.

I believe that covers any areas that might have been left out, or run over to quickly in the video. Like i said it was raining, so i tried to do my best for the conditions. I also didn't plan it out ahead of time, i just grabbed the camera and went at it.

Hope this helps clear up any issues. Mainly which hose to tap into.

  • why would you need a boost guage on a non turbo car

  • the Ion Redline is supercharged. The supercharger is actually visible at the beginning of the video. its right infront, hard to miss actually.

  • If you wire the 12v connection into the gray wire on the emergency light switch, the gauge light will come on and off with your headlights as well as dim. It's really easy to do and you don't have the wires running everywhere. Pull off the silver HVAC cover by tugging on the air vents really hard and it pops right off. Then just simply splice into the gray and you're done. Short distance to run the wire and it is perfectly hidden. Also, look into NewSouthPerformance for a decent pod. :)

  • so its analog?

I'm not a fully certified mechanic. However I do know that both turbos and supers are set to a designated PSI. Like a turbo is set to 14psi at 7000rpm WOT. Same with the supercharger, i believe the Ion was 10-11psi at 6500rpm. So when you hit 6500 rpm WOT it should read 10psi, but at 3000rpm your not pushing 10psi.

the main reason I installed the gauge was for trouble shooting (leaks), looks and down the road I was planning on changing pully's and increasing the PSI.

  • @jayguy173 just saying that because you missed the whole sc when he had the hood open

  • on a supercharged car the pressure stays the same right on a turbo car it goes up with rpms

  • @jayguy173 wow are you stupid

  • good video thank u very helpful

  • ok looking it almost looked part of the engine at first but now i notice a supercharger
