This song, made by Páll Ísólfsson by lyrics of Davíð Stefánsson tells about the icelandic fishermen, standing by the steer of their ship on the way to land in the dark of the night. They are praying to see the beacon lights from the lighthouse. Fear is all around, they can even hear the sounds of the ocean waves calling out the names of fishermen already taken by the sea. The song is about the desire for he safety of the harbour.
No matter how dangerous, in early days Icelanders had to go to sea. Ships were often not more than boats and in many case there were father and sons in the same boat. We have many stories of them not making it back, or even having accidents while landing by the shore. Sometimes in front of the very eyes of their wife and mother.
Conductor of Katla Festival Choir in this song is Friðrik S. Kristinsson conductor of Karlakór Reykjavíkur
