@hinc1mike You are also completely underestimating the use of religion for political purposes (that led to christianism being adopted as the official religion of the Roman Empire) and the simple fact that the majority is not always right. Especially when this majority believes something as convenient as religious delusions.

"We must love al'Qaeda"
While I do agree that the precept of loving an enemy is obviously problematic and even in certain situations, dangerous, you're certainly not gaining anything from hating them.
Really, having any emotional attachments to someone who means to do you harm is the worse course of action.
You must coldly and systematically remove them from your life, not act based on some dumb impulse like hatred or love.
"Be rational about every situation" is probably a better idea.

@JBP238 You know, no pun intended.
Catholicism is not biblical, so I would personally wouldn't take that as a totally reliable theology.
From a modern western world point of view, people can't make sense out of the Bible and they try to make sense or "interpret" it. So my recommendation is, just learn the culture, customs, geography, history and the Bible is a pretty literal book. Otherwise you have all this people making weird opinions.

@bbruno00 Edward Tarte was once a devout Catholic priest,so I challenge your assertion that he lacks the prerequisite knowledge of the culture and customs to interpret the bible clearly.
Given this, his interpretation of the bible is at least equally valid to that of a believer. Otherwise, if an ex-priest lacks the knowledge to divine (no pun intended) truths from it, how can the layman hope to do so?
What's more, how can such a clear text yield such a contradictory range of interpretations?
-
@JBP238 Would you call Edward Tarte a willing follower?
The Bible is very clear when read in context and with knowledge of the culture and customs.
-
@bbruno00 If he is unable to even understand the bible's basic teachings, how can any believer be expected to do so? Why would a supreme being convey his teachings in a way that is inaccessible even to most willing followers? And even so, wouldn't it be god's will to reach out to nonbelievers via a comprehendible piece of literature?

@edwardtarte You will have to consider you are made up of energy as well as matter. When you die, that energy will separate from your flesh and go someplace else. Energy doesn't die according to science. I also don't see why science and God cannot co-exist together..Look at the right/left brain theory, one side uses extreme logic the other extreme creativity, is it that hard to believe God has a higher level of both? Can the sears tower or human body be built by a tornado? We have a Creator.

Another of Jesus's dubious teachings was telling people to pluck out their eyes and cut off their hands if they cause them to sin. It might have been a "metaphor" I guess, but if so he didn't make himself very clear.

3:25 wow calm down dude.

The reason I believe hardly anything the Bible says is because it was written from humans, not by God or Jesus themselves.
you know theres a reason you cant "prove" God exists. its kind of hard when if you think about it, noone can prove that they themselves exist. for all we know, we are a figment of another entity's imagination. we could also be dreaming when we think were awake, but are really awake in a dream. you b

@Joseph9513, my existence and yours are self-evident. Your statement 'no one can prove that they themselves exist, and for all we know we are a figment of another entity's imagination' is the first of a string of statements in your comment that is totally illogical and unworthy of further comment by me or by any rational person.

the bible has been altered. and you dont need to calculate anything, if theres a chance, which there is, then it is. and besides all that, what keeps atheists alive? they have nothing to hope for

@Joseph9513,what keeps me,an atheist, alive?Realizing that this is the only life I have,I treasure every day that I have a decent existence.I tutor students in math,I play the piano,I listen to music,I share my love of music with others through YouTube,I play chess.I realize that for many reasons I am extremely lucky to be alive.I am a philanthropist who strives to relieve human suffering.I have much to hope for.I hope to leave the world a better place than it would otherwise have been.

@Joseph9513, no doubt it is disappointing to many, but not to me. I have no desire to live forever. Wanting to live forever seems to me to be extremely greedy. I am so happy to have been lucky enough to live as long as I have lived, with the quality of life that I have had. Mark Twain said, 'I was dead for billions of years before I was born, and I did not suffer the slightest inconvenience.' It's just the way things are.

dude if Jesus was a bad teacher, how come you have 7,239 views and Jesus split time in half from bc/ad? And every body knows the name of Jesus? I accept him over your doctrine becase he has the creditals to back it up.

@hinc1mike, all accounts of what Jesus said and did were written from hearsay or just made up, decades after his reported death. We have no accurate knowledge of what he said or did, nor of the purposes and consequences of his actions whatever they were. Many Biblical scholars have serious doubts about whether Jesus even existed. A good teacher sees to it that his teaching is documented accurately, which Jesus certainly could have done if he was from God. But he didn't do that.
