I just watched this video just to see what you are talking about - the tape is from over 20 years ago, and the Paramount logo looked extremely aged to begin with.
Airplane is from 1980, so of course the logo is going to look almost as old as the movie, and coupled with aged (not necessarily poor) tape quality, there is bound to be some sort of color issue, but I see what you mean.

The thing is, it's not even the complete intro. I used to have the complete intro (on my old taped copy of "A Very Brady Sequel"), but I threw the tape out, and when I realized I tossed a tape with an intro that was retired the year I taped the movie (1997), I kicked myself.
Bad thing is my parents also cut the tape off after the funny credits that ended with Otto the Autopilot, once the regular credits started rolling, the tape cuts.

I love the movie Airplane! ! I own it on dvd but not the HBO thing with it!!
with that play sign flashing was it taken from a jvc vcr?
