  • @guruflorida: The part is picked up with a vacuum tip, then those jaws converge on the part from both sides symmetrically. The first jaw to hit the part pushes the component sideways on the vacuum tip until the component hits the other jaw. Since the jaw positions move together and are symmetric, this centers the part on one axis (X or Y). Two sets of jaws one after the other can center on X and Y.

    But this only works on symmetric packages (caps, QFNs) - BGAs need uplooking cameras.

  • @guruflorida We have something similar on our Manncorp machine except it's much bigger. It's a prism that takes an image of the bottom of the component to place accurately. Not sure if it's the same thing on the APS machine but imagine it is.

  • What is the copper jaws that appear to chomp on the picked up part (mounted on the head of the unit)? I don't know how else the explain it. I have never seen such a piece on a PnP machine.
