CD to be released on Oct 23, 2007

Hailed by The New York Times for her "powerful playing," harpist Yolanda Kondonassis is one of the world's preeminent performers of the works of Carlos Salzedo. With this collection, Kondonassis presents an authentic and exciting glimpse of Salzedo's genius. Her selections are chosen to reflect what she categorizes as Salzedo's three compositional styles: Traditional, Transitional, and Contemporary. Included on the album are: Salzedo's Variations On A Theme in Ancient Style, Bolero, Tango, Rumba, Seguidilla, Chanson dans la nuit (Song in the Night), La Désirade, Scintillation, and the Sonata for Harp and Piano.

Yolanda Kondonassis is recognized as one of the world's foremost harpists, performing as a soloist throughout the United States, Far East, and Europe. Praised by Gramophone magazine for the "clarity, colour, and rhythmic vitality of [her] playing," Kondonassis marks her thirteenth Telarc recording with the release of Salzedo's Harp. Her published works include On Playing the Harp, The Yolanda Kondonassis Collection, and The Yolanda Kondonassis Christmas Collection, all published by Carl Fischer. • Nice video, telarc. Let's see and hear more from Yolanda. She is a first-class artist whose harp knowledge and gifted musicianship deserve further promotion on YouTube. She has a nice respect for past masters on her instrument as well as an admirable drive to compose on her own (e.g. "Liquid Shadows" from 1997's PICTURES OF THE FLOATING WORLD) and to explore the works of contemporary composers (e.g. 2009's NEVER FAR AWAY by Bright Sheng). I hope she'll enjoy bookings across the country soon!

  • we need the entire song online!

  • twang!

  • She mispronounces his name for some reason. It's Salzedo, not Zalzedo. She speaks well of him. She is far from the only harpist of his lineage.

  • i heard yolonda on NPR and had to seek her out. I'm sure to buy some cds for myself and friends for xmas.

i wish i could see her play. Any vids of her on the net?

    cheers

    crofty

  • what music is this???who composed????its perfect

  • Salzedo has had a MONUMENTAL impact on HIGH ART MUSIC and modern classical performance with a musical IQ rivalled possibly only by Liszt and Paganini. He was the logical next giant step artistically and theoretically in modern classical composition/performance in my opinion even if he does not musically mirror them! Serious musicians--take heed!

  • This is wonderful!

I totaly agree with the "harpist jumping through hoops" in the Theme on an Ancient Style. :op Trapeese artist doesnt begin to describ that piece

  • great video!!Thanks!! I love Salzedo and Yolanda is a great great perfomer of Salzedo's pieces!!I play his "dances" and I want to see more!! please post more videos!! maybe Yolanda playing....it would be amazing!!!
