Germantown Town Center Urban Park Walkthrough Germantown, MD

This park provides a green oasis for the community to come together and enjoy the outdoors. The landscape amenities and storm water engineering facilities in this park are interrelated and provide water quality and storm water management improvements for 40 acres of urban storm water runoff that is directed through this open space. Accessible routes have been incorporated with various paving patterns and types throughout the park. For example, paving strips on the plazas and braided feature run on a true North/South orientation, to allow the visitor to visualize directionality at a regional level. The theme of the park amenities is to celebrate all things green, both through sound environmental management and through symbolic park features that express the concept known as "Lay Lightly on the Land." The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission finished the final park design process between 2008 and 2010 with assistance from O'Doherty Group Landscape Architecture. Storm water engineering was performed by Charles P. Johnson Associates and is integral to the surface park amenity elements.
