  • This crash ended Tighe Scott's career.

  • Tighe Scott actually came very close to winning the 1979 Daytona 500 until a late botched pit stop ended his chances. Still, a 6th place finish that year was very impressive for the Pen Argyle, PA independent. And thank God safety response for accidents has improved since 1982!

  • What THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THE SAFTEY CREW????? It took them about 5 minutes just to get to Tighe's car. And the way they were carrying him across the track was pathetic.

  • so the solution is to carry a potential neck/spinal injury across a track bouncing him around severly? wonders never cease to amaze me

  • i like how during ned jarrett's piece he holds up esbestos. hahaha. if they only knew.

  • I am named after tighe scott

  • I'm trying to find pictures of the # 30 car (the late Roy Smith Finished 10th) from that race, I need more I can only find one side and I need all sides.

  • Until only a few years ago, the field raced back to the start finish after a caution came out. It was only after Dale Jarrett sat in the middle of the straight at loudon with cars dodging him racing to the line, that the rule was changed. NASCAR still waits too long at certain tracks to throw the caution and will inevitably cause another horrific crash before they start taking safety as seriously as they should.

  • Unbelievable!!The caution is out and from what I can tell the cars are passing by at the least 120-150 mph.I know Nascar has come a long way but this is nuts! And to think I use to be involve with this.Tighe is from up in my neck of the woods.Still frequents some of the reunions.

  • it's not funny. it's fucking archaic.

  • Goes to show you how much safety has improved and that the announcers are much more attentive to how the driver is responding inside the car. The net was up so long you knew he was hurt. Today, the safety crew would have been there in moments. I wonder how much pulling him out and carrying him to the ambulance contributed to his injuries. You can't even tell if its a safety crew or his pit crew! Unbelievable compared to today's standards.

  • could imagen if they did that now a days!!
