I've read several books that say that you can boil water in a large leaf, it sounds so easy that it's probably not even worth wasting the time to practice right? From what I've read you should be able to place a water filled leaf over a fire and the water will prevent the leaf from burning. Well, yeah kinda... next time I'll just place hot rocks into the water.

  • @BF3SlingShoT Totally agree with you, the heat should be coming from below the water and not on the sides.

  • Almost made it bro, I think you would have better results if you could somehow get the fire directly underneath... Maybe by using coals. You can actually boil water in a paper cup so I cant see why you couldnt do it in a leaf. Cheers and better luck next time!

  • if u make that base witch was a pretty nice 1 actually, then take away the leaf, dig a hole in the middle and put the glowing coal in there :) bet its gonna take a bit shorter time :)

  • I read that in a child's fiction book... were we reading the same book? its called My Side of the Mountain.

  • Hot rocks would definitely work better, but you said that already. One thing I would do though is float another leaf of the same type on top as a lid. Pretty cool idea though, I'd never thought of that. Too bad its all pine forests around here! lol

  • even though that didn't quit work, that was still pretty cool!

  • I havent tried this method myself although I've seen quite a few different versions of it.

It seems that the best way of making the leaf hold a cup shape is to use pliable, thin green sticks as a sort of sewing thread and basically weave them around the top of the "cup" to make it hold the shape, at least I've seen that work to great effect with kelp.

I also think that using coals rather than "live flames" will limit the damage to the leaf and decrease boil time as coals are hotter.

    Good vid.

  • @Boatguy2010 he talks later in the video, so calm down.... and its not a "How To". Does it say "How To" In the title? NOPE! so calm down bud, dont get all pissy.
