Micro hydro uses diverted river water to local produce up to 100 KW of power. Very useful in water rich areas where access to other energy sources is difficult. Find out how it works in this minute long silent animation.

  • How about the marine life in the river?

  • The ecological impact of small-scale hydro is minimal; but the low-level environmental effects must be taken into consideration before construction begins. Stream water will be diverted away from part of the stream, so proper caution must be exercised to ensure there is no damaging impact on the local ecology.

  • Okay, tell me about it - how can you build small scale hydro generation stations, what do you have to do to not harm the ecosystem?

  • sorry - this isn't the place to discuss this in detail, and I'm a web editor, not an alternative energy specialist. There's lots of good information on the Alternative Energy News site, though, if you Google it.

  • at 0:22 the generator starts vibrating badly. maybe a bearing is going out or the mounting bushings are shot

  • make your own electricity and detach from the new world order

  • The negatives of Turbine-Water Powered electricity to you is that it will support too much algae which will damage the river. What about using a Pool Type Design and create water flow inside there? What about taking the algae in that pool and using it for fuel?

  • @heartlessvietboy Its great in the ideal but Hydro electricity comes at a cost. The main issue is that it generally requires damming the river which would stagnate water flow. Water that is not really moving will support a large explosive growth of algae that will choke the river of its oxygen.

  • can i do this with a small motor

  • Can this be built over a network of hydrodams?Say one pipe source from the river then the excess water goes to a pumping station to be piped to other mini hydro dams?
