Gary Screw and Bolt Factory Ruins, Gary, Indiana

They produced over 400 tons of finished product per month! In 1986 they succumbed to foreign competition, went bankrupt and officially closed. Sewer and manhole covers have been looted -- watch your step!!

Looks like the ghost of the U.S. economy. The Republicans could use this footage to get themselves elected free trade is working so good. Something that the communist who protect their manufacturing jobs are the ones who are loaning the free market U.S. government money. Could it be that this massive loss of good paying jobs has drained the U.S. treasury?

@JMMoosey The dems, Clinton are every bit as responsible for the mess this country is in. I'm not a Union man but ask you what is worse, a union worker making a middle class wage with healthcare for his family or a CEO collecting millions in undeserved pay and bonus? Working people have paid the price for past greed. What price have the executives paid? I'm wondering where all the jobs and prosperity the free trade politicians promised. The results I see are nothing but a mess.

@westonsz The Republicans didn't do this. Liberal Democrats have been in power in Gary, IN since at least the 1960s if not more. Other parts of Indiana have had conservative Republicans and those places look a hell of a lot better than Gary, IN. The Unions are the responsible for the jobs leaving Gary, IN. The unions have asked too much for too long and the non-unionized middle class workers are getting bit in the ass because of it.
