The best way to respond to this video and address the situation with the doll and the capitalism-run-amok it represents is to say this: As Mo Rocca is surely well aware (he hints very strongly at this in his shtick), the nature of play in the development of any intelligent creature (human, or otherwise) is to prepare them for adult life. To purposely create a doll that is as overtly sexual as this Barbie (as if others were less so) is to imply to girls that we expect all women to dress thusly.

Reading over the responses to this video that actually attempt to form a stance on Lingerie Barbie have me convinced that the greater tragedy surrounding the creation of this assault against childhood is the permeation of the false dichotomy that is America's morality vacuum. It seems one cannot defend a child's right to sexual identity without being a pedophile and cannot defend a child's right not to be hypersexualized by greedy toy makers without being a prude. I'd love to know if Fox producers were in on Mo's joke. Could they really be so brain dead as to think he was serious? Perhaps they thought he'd make a good straw man for their simplistic black&white CWFA spokesperson. When has CWFA ever produced a spokesperson who can be taken any more seriously than Mo? There should be a place for serious discussion about issues such as "Lingerie Barbie", but brow-beating moralizing shows such as this one is not such a place. Lingerie Barbie is a farce.

Its not like you cant already take Barbie's clothes off. Some things just aren't meant for kids. These people acted as if Lingerie Barbie would've been stocked next to Hello Kitty or Tonka. When in all actuality it probably wouldn't have been on the premises of one retail market. Its obviously for Adult collectors. These overbearing loud-mouth, over-concerned "conservative" parents need to find a hobby.
