This. Is. Vector Pilot.

For the Vectrex!

This game is a conversion of Time Pilot, and it is awesome. Here's the link to the designer's website, which you must check out to bask in the warm glow of Vectrex awesomeness, and also to inquire about purchasing Vector Pilot or another game, if you are interested.

Kristof Tuts did an amazing job recreating the Konami arcade classic for the Vectrex. Time Pilot is one of my favorite arcade games. Might be my favorite arcade game ever. Maybe. I don't know. I do know that I really enjoy it. And I enjoy Vector Pilot. A lot.

There is so much happening on screen, the graphics are great, the sounds are accurate and awesome, the overlays are superb, everything about Vector Pilot is fantastic!

The game has a calibration mode so you can adjust the screen center and progress bar at the top so that they align properly with the overlay, and the cartridge stores this setting so you don't have to calibrate it every time you play. The cart also retains you top 9 high scores!

As far as how faithful the gameplay is to the original...I would say it is very faithful. Some minor differences that I've noticed are....the enemies in the 1940 stage are able to drop bombs but they aren't able to in the arcade. Also, when you die, when you regain control of your ship, the enemies will begin attacking immediately, whereas in the arcade there is a slight pause before they attack.

One other difference is that it seems like your ship can't turn quite as fast as it can in the arcade. As of right now in my experience with Vector Pilot, I am still not as confident performing tight and fast turns when there's a lot of enemies around as I would in the arcade. That said, the difference is subtle, and it is possible I am imagining it, or that it's just the Vectrex controller doesn't feel as responsive to me as say, an arcade stick or a d-pad.

But those are all minor minor things. I can't stress that enough. lol I really love Vector Pilot, I feel very privileged to have it, and it's one of my favorite games I own.

Hope this video was a little enjoyable to watch, and thanks very much for watching! :)

  • What a incredible job he did with this remake!

  • @jchase1970 Definitely! I regret how I sound at the end of this video, I think I come across as sarcastic, but I really love this game! It is truly excellent.

  • In my opinion one of the best Vectrex games available. It is really worth the money.

  • @DJKOZI Yep, I don't mind the cost for such an excellent game!

  • To me, the Vectrex is the Dreamcast of the 2nd Gen consoles.

Both were innovative, fun, and just reeked of awesome, yet neither received the commercial success they deserved.

  • @Quimbyrbg Hmmm, interesting, I hadn't thought of it like that. But I can get behind it! It's great to see something like Vector Pilot really push the system. It's awesome what people can achieve with these older systems. I find it all very exciting! And the Dreamcast rules, I still wish it had a typical lifespan so we could see how far it could be pushed technically.

  • The Vectrex was very cool. I will have to keep a look out for this one so I can play it on mine. It used to be my old mans back in the day and still works. Don't think my PS3 will in 30+ years time.

  • I want a Vectrex (really really really really really really really really really) pretty bad.

  • @Darrylb500 It is amazing how much stuff is happening on screen at once. And as you said, the ability to save, bonus features, etc, it's just so complete. I love this game! :)

  • @niceandgames No, you're right 100%, when there's very little slowdown, even with a lot of clouds and enemies and such going on, along with saving your settings, selectable skill levels and bonus stuff, you can't really get much better than anything else that is out for the system period.
