Alternative View 379; UNDER THE BUSH WITH THE CIA

Alternative View was an Austin Tex. cable tv show that did a lot of reports on government corruption and illegal activities of the CIA in the 1980's & 90's. While this may be old news it is an important part of history that most people aren't aware of.
John Stockwell is a retired intelligence officer and former CIA station chief. In his retirement he was an outspoken author / reformer. One of a number of CIA whislteblowers that first shined a light on the agencies covert activities in the 70's & 80's. We have posted on this site another video with his observations that is well worth checking out.
In this clip John gives us an overview of some of the consequences of American intervention in Afghanistan. Why did 9/11 happen? The seeds were sown in the early 1980's when Ronald Regan unleashed the CIA which in a series of bloody interventions. In Afghanistan this ultimately led to the creation of a network of Islamists and drug/warlords to overthrow the more progressive Soviet backed government. Al-Qaeda came out of this Islamist network created by the Pakistan/Saudi intelligence agencies with C.I.A. support.
Here at Mindsi2 we shine a light on the politics and history of the 1980's because it set the stage for many of the domestic and international crisis that we are going through today.

My answer to you is so what. The government makes deals with all sorts of nasty people all the time. The deal is simple, we give the leaders money and guns, they allow our companies access to their natural resources. They make money and stay in power, we make money and get resources. Everyone wins, except for the normal people who are screwed over.

@MrDurcon Seems to me it is your thinking that is childish. I have no argument that wars are fought so the rich can get richer. That is why must pick our fights wisely and we really haven't been of late. What is so outrageous in the case of Afghanistan is that all that country has suffered through over the past 40+ years has come from our meddling in their country. From causing the Soviet invasion in 1979 to today our hand has been there at great cost and bringing a lot of misery.

Amazing this was made in 1989. It is the best YouTube video on Afghanistan at the time, instead of the assorted nutcases who are going on about what a great American Charlie Wilson was oblivious to the chaos he and Reagan created. The Mujahideen were terrorists, the Taliban evolved from them. The West in its anti-Soviet Frenzy gave these people who represent the most repressive elements in Afghan society the weaponry they needed to totally destabilize the country.
