Rushanara Ali brought up in the constituency of Bethnal Green & Bow, and have been an active member of the Labour Party since the age of 17, and a member of the GMB trade union for over 10 years.
She was among the first in her school to get a place at Oxford University where she studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
She worked as a Parliamentary Assistant in the House of Commons( 1997-1999), for the Labour Government in the Foreign Office on human rights issues(2001-2002) and also with Home Office (2002-2005) to mobilize local and national agencies after the 2001 riots in Burnley, Bradford and Oldham.
Now she is working as an Associat Director of the Young Foundation based in Bethnal Green and working to eastablished new grassroots organisations.
Her main commitment is to build up a better East End & working on the issues that matter to local people-crime, housing, jobs, education and poverty.
