Lend Lease claims The Bond building in Hickson Road is 'the greenest building in Sydney' ... but it sits upon an abandoned tar pit ... a legacy of the Gas Works that sat on this site many years ago.

With Lend Lease planning to commence a mass excavation of their intended car park on the adjacent Barangaroo site, what are the risks to the harbour, the environment and the local community?

  • Sydney has a good topological profile currently. Why anyone would want to build an oversized set of buildings on this particular large plot of land defeats me. A Dubai like set of structures is inappropriate. Why is one developer exercising control over such a large chunk of Sydney's waterfront. Dubai is all front and no substance and a place of extreme rich and poor. Do not emulate it and spoil Sydney. Something more sympathetic to the character of Sydney is needed than the Lend Lease proposal.

  • what a crock of shit

  • So the famous northern headland that Mr. Keating is so very keen on will in fact simply be a convenient disposal site for the toxic waste dug up by the developers?

Is that what I am led to understand?

  • Well said Jack.

But one 'field' of pollution has not been seen to here ... visual pollution.

The whole proposal is ugly - terribly so

  • Obviously, any toxicity will need to be dug out, treated & removed. To compensate for the extra costs of clean up - encourage Lend Lease to build a truly magnificent international commercial & residential site that will be another world class icon for Sydney people, Australians & the world alike. The site is large enough and extremely well positioned for such a designed vision. Encourage Lend Lease to stick to their old motif "IMAGINE. CREATE." We need some more imagination - Think Dubai & more.

  • This is just another aspect of a disgraceful development. The height, the bulk, the overshadowing and now the pollution.

    Robin Richards

  • Well done Jack

  • Good on you Jack!! You are a true local hero!!
